Shaping Industrie 4.0. Autonomous, interoperable and sustainable.

PLATFORM PUBLICATION - Plattform Industrie 4.0 and its partners present a vision that shows what Industry 4.0 should look like in 2030. Autonomy, Interoperability and Sustainability are the guidelines for the digital ecosystems of the future. The progress report shows milestones on the way.

Experts from Plattform Industrie 4.0 have jointly developed a 2030 vision for Industrie 4.0. Because Industrie 4.0 is more than just a business or technology topic. It secures our competitiveness through complex, digital business models in flexible and globally networked value creation systems. Moreover, it is indispensable if we as a society in Germany, Europe and the world want to increase our quality of life through digital transformation. The three pillars of the vision "Autonomy, Interoperability and Sustainability" are a contribution to the discussion. From this dialogue we would like to learn how we can jointly shape global digital ecosystems.

This progress report shows what Plattform Industrie 4.0 has already achieved today in shaping digital ecosystems of the future and what we still want to achieve: Last year we intensified our many cooperations and established new ones, as the interest in partnerships and exchange continues. International cooperation shows that we can only tackle the challenges of Industrie 4.0 together. For example, we have come a long way in the challenge of standardization. We are presenting the success of the implementation of the administration shell. In addition, our experts have formulated pioneering approaches to key challenges in IT security, education and training, research, business models and law. These approaches aim particularly at SMEs. In the Transfer Network Industrie 4.0, more and more partners are supporting them with their know-how.

Applying Industrie 4.0. Forward Thinking. Practical. Connected.

Introduction

PLATFORM PUBLICATION - The Plattform Industrie 4.0 is respected in Germany and around the world as an established network for forward thinking and practical solutions for the future environment for Industrie 4.0. The 2018 progress report provides an update on the work of the Plattform Industrie 4.0.

The platform has set a benchmark with its work towards a uniform framework for global standards: its description of the Industrie 4.0 components and specification of the administration shell creates the basis for interoperability in digital production systems. By engaging in international cooperation, the platform is also bringing about global progress towards the goal. The experts are attracting attention in their own communities by providing practical recommendations on, for example, IT security training or the categorisation of antitrust issues.

As the issue has become increasingly significant for the industrial sector, the platform has set up a new working group on business model types in Industrie 4.0. A restructuring in the field of research and innovation has also commenced, and is reflected in a new orientation for the previous working group on research and innovation and in the academic advisory council, which has now been redesignated the Research Council and includes industrial representatives.

To a large degree, the success of the digital transformation will depend on SMEs looking for specific, practical support and orientation. Companies across Germany should be able to benefit from the platform’s expertise. The Industrie 4.0 transfer network set up by the Economic Affairs and Research Ministries brings stakeholders together on a regional and thematic basis in order to leverage synergies.

The Industrial Internet Consortium (IIC) held its quarterly meeting at SAP headquarters in Heidelberg, Germany. Bosch and SAP jointly sponsored a one-day session with the IIC and Plattform Industrie 4.0. There were 315 member representatives from 105 IIC member companies and a 75 additional people attending the IIC/Plattform Industrie 4.0 joint session.

The Industrial Internet Consortium (IIC) was announced just two years ago on 27th March 2014

in Reston, Virginia, USA. At that first meeting, all of the member company representatives could

sit around a single dinner table and maintain a single conversation. With IIC approaching 250

members from 30 countries, when we met again in Reston last month, we could barely fit the

working-group leads around a table, and certainly failed to maintain a single conversation!

When the IIC was founded, it had four working groups that met regularly: marketing, technology,

security and testbeds. Testbeds enable innovation by testing out ideas, technology and business

models. Testbeds distinguished IIC, then and now, and they are a strong “selling” point.

IIC is again leading the way with a new working group: Business Strategy and Solutions Lifecycle.

Progress Report: Industrial Internet

Security Framework

The Industrial Internet Consortium (IIC) has always been international in scope and currently

counts some 250 members from 30 countries. The latest meeting in Tokyo, Japan in early June.

As usual, there were many meetings over the three days for the various working groups

providing members with many ways to interact.

This note starts with the Industrial Internet Security Framework (IISF), which was released to

our liaisons for review in two parts. The first part, released in late April, covered the

background and the business viewpoint. The second part was released in late May. Member

companies and our liaisons worked hard to provide comments for consideration at the

meeting.
