In July 2001, the Space Domain Task Force of the Object Management Group (OMG) issued a Request for Proposal (RFP) on Telemetric and Command Data Specification. This RFP solicited proposals that define telemetry and commanding data specifications in support of all phases of the satellite, payload, and ground segment lifecycle: system design, development, test, validation, and mission operations. In fact, telemetry and commanding data design is still often performed multiple times in multiple formats by multiple contractors during the lifecycle of the satellite, well before the satellite is ever deployed for mission operations. Standardisation of telemetry and commanding data descriptions for spacecraft health and safety monitoring, as well as payload interfaces, will reduce the cost of these implementations and decrease the development schedule, integration, and test of the satellite and its component systems. A common, adaptable specification can also be used to support multiple heterogeneous missions, facilitating interoperability among ground control systems, simulators, testing facilities, etc.

XML™ Telemetric and Command Exchange™ (XTCE™) – A non-proprietary standard description language of telemetry and command parameters that allows the definition of space link frames and packets to be exchanged among manufacturers, vendors, testers and operators.

• Ground Equipment Monitoring Service™ (GEMS™) – Standardized message protocol and syntax for ground equipment that reduces system integration costs.

Using UPDM for Non-military Applications

ARCHITECT ◊ INTEGRATE ◊ MODERNIZE

Join us on Monday Morning, March 23rd at the Hyatt Reston Town Center Hotel, Reston, VA to hear a focused discussion by keynote presenter, Rory Kinney, Director for Architecture and Engineering, DoD CIO Office, on Architecture and Interoperability within the DoD. In addition, this complimentary Summit explores how to leverage MBSE with Architecture modeling in an integrated and disciplined approach, enabling the modernization of complex systems (Systems of Systems, C4I systems and heavy industry systems), bringing together thought leaders from government, system integrators, the UAF development team, and practitioners to discuss the challenges, strategies, and current and emerging practices, and to inform the user community on the path forward. UAF with MBSE attendees will have the opportunity to exchange experiences and ideas. Today's architecture modeling environment suffers from being an effort to satisfy milestone decisions. Typically the architecture effort is separated from the Systems Engineering (SE) leading to a lack of traceability from the systems requirements to the architecture resulting in interoperable systems. Due to the way that the Architecture models are created they generally consist of static diagrams and provide limited analytical support to the decision maker.

Object Management Group Forms Digital Twin Consortium with Founders Ansys, Dell Technologies, Lendlease, and Microsoft

Users to create standard terminology, reference architectures and share use cases across industries

NEEDHAM, MA – MAY 18, 2020 – Non-profit trade association Object Management Group® (OMG®) with founders Ansys, Dell Technologies, Lendlease and Microsoft, today announced the formation of Digital Twin Consortium™. Digital twin technology enables companies to head off problems before they occur, prevent downtime, improve the customer experience, develop new opportunities, drive innovation and performance and plan for the future using simulations. Members of Digital Twin Consortium will collaborate across multiple industries to learn from each other and develop and apply best practices. This new open membership organization will drive consistency in vocabulary, architecture, security and interoperability to help advance the use of digital twin technology in many industries from aerospace to natural resources.
