Apple Scales Back Its Ambitions for a Self-Driving Car

SAN FRANCISCO — As new employees were brought into Apple’s secret effort to create a self-driving car a few years ago, managers told them that they were working on the company’s next big thing: A product that would take on Detroit and disrupt the automobile industry.

苹果首席执行长库克(Tim Cook) 6月份对彭博新闻(Bloomberg News)表示，公司已经把重点放在无人驾驶系统上，但他并未透露细节。《纽约时报》报道称，苹果之所以转移重心，是因为历时多年的无人驾驶汽车项目Project Titan进展并不理想，这既和项目规模太大有关，也和缺乏对最终产品的清晰目标有关。

《纽约时报》报道称，在长期负责苹果硬件的高管Bob Mansfield去年接掌Titan项目之后，他把项目的重心从生产无人驾驶汽车转移到了产品背后的技术上。《纽约时报》报道称，苹果计划在其硅谷园区之间开通无人驾驶班车，以测试相关技术。
