5G for Automation in Industry (White Paper)

This white paper examines how the 3GPP-defined 5G architecture will impact industry, in particular process and discrete manufacturing. It describes the most relevant use cases, and the corresponding 5G functions and service requirements. The functionality described in this white paper is proposed for implementation in 3GPP Rel-16 specifications, currently scheduled for completion in 2020.

The deployment of 5G technologies for industrial automation will bring new challenges for all parties. This document aims to clarify the role and the focus of 5G-ACIA with regard to testing and validation of 5G industrial applications. The following points will be addressed:

5G Non-Public Networks for Industrial Scenarios (White Paper)

This paper describes four industrial (IIoT) deployment scenarios for 3GPP-defined 5G non-public networks. The paper also considers key aspects, in particular service attributes that can help to highlight the differences between these scenarios. In contrast to a network that offers mobile network services to the general public, a 5G non-public network (NPN, also sometimes called a private network) provides 5G network services to a clearly defined user organisation or group of organisations.
